Chris Simpson
Principal Hydrogeologist
Chris Simpson joined WWLA in June 2023 as a Principal Hydrogeologist.
Chris holds an MSc (Hons) in economic geology from the University of Auckland and has 30 years of experience as a consultant and in the private sector.
After an initial career in resource exploration and mining, he joined the environmental consulting industry working on projects related to geological engineering, contaminated land, and groundwater remediation. Stemming from that early experience, he has built a technical profile working on groundwater supply and wastewater disposal projects for domestic, commercial, and municipal clients. Chris is also experienced in the assessment of water-related environmental effects associated with mining, hydrocarbon and energy projects.
Aside from his technical expertise, Chris spent four years teaching hydrogeology at undergraduate and post-graduate levels at the University of Auckland. He managed his own consulting business for over 10 years and is a qualified project manager. Chris has been a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) for 8 years and is passionate about continued learning and sharing knowledge.
Outside of his career Chris has a keen interest in fixing things, house renovation, car restoration, music, family, walking and keeping fit.
