Environmental Scientist, Hazardous Substances Advisor

Steve joined WWLA’s Whangarei office in 2022 as Environmental Scientist, Hazardous Substances Advisor after fifteen years as an Environmental Advisor at Refining NZ, the oil refinery at Marsden Point.

Steve has a BSc in Zoology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management, from the University of Auckland. Steve has worked in environmental management for both regional government and industry for 30 years.

Steve cares deeply for New Zealand’s environment and is passionate about implementing innovative industrial environmental solutions. Steve has considerable experience in the management of groundwater contamination and marine pollution prevention and extensive experience investigating and remediating industrial sites. Steve’s time at Refining NZ gave him experience and knowledge in hazardous substance management, including the HSWA (Hazardous Substances) Regulations.

Outside of the office, Steve sweats his way trail running up and down hills. He lives by the sea and enjoys anything marine related, including dreaming about his next yacht.
